WordPress Categories And How To Use Them

The WordPress categories feature allows you to sort and organize your posts into a specific group or topic…

For instance…

If you’re creating a website that talks about a variety of different topics you can basically divide your site into sections by creating a category for each section/topic.

How many WordPress categories should I use?

The amount of categories you use is really up to you…

On this site (robertbolgar.com) I only have three categories so far because I have only been talking about things related to setting up your website with WordPress.  I will be adding more as I go along…

My categories are as follows:

  • Website Setup – all posts related to setting up your site
  • WordPress Plugins – any post that talks about specific plugins for WordPress
  • WordPress Themes – whenever I talk about WordPress themes I will put them here.

These are just the ones I have needed so far and I plan to talk about these three topics in the future so I decided to create a category for each one.

Keep things as simple as possible…

My goal for this website is to keep the user experience as simple and smooth as possible so people will actually enjoy coming to my site to get the help they may need.

Plus I found out today that Google indexed my category page faster than it did some of my blog posts…

When I typed the phrase – site:robertbolgar.com into google it shows all the pages that have been indexed so far.

Sure enough my website setup category page was at the top of the list…  Since this website is only a few weeks old this makes me assume that the search engines like when things are categorized correctly.

I may be wrong about this but who really knows…

Either way, thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy the video above about using WordPress categories…
